Life Sucks, A Love Letter

Published on 10 July 2025 at 06:51

“Life sucks”, my friend said, when I asked her what I should write about in my blog.

This was a while back, and I never started that blog, and my friend went on to challenge for the world’s most negative person, seeking out darkness and gloom, almost as if she was scared of the light.

She’s no longer here on earth, but I often think about her, l loved her, still do, and I wish I had written something for her, so Dear Reader, forgive me, this one’s for her.

Dear ———-

Life does suck, you’re right, in the way a stopped watch is right a couple of times a day.

I know you think that I think being motivated makes everything ok, but I don’t, and it doesn’t.

The motivated still get dealt some cards they wouldn’t have chosen, still get sad, still cry, still have bad days, still lose, still stub their toe from time to time, still hurt, all that ‘life sucks’ stuff, and more.

And they get through it the best they can, trying not to linger in their pain, try to keep on going.

Being motivated just means knowing what you want, to get, to achieve, to become, and doing something about it. We’re all on a path, the motivated are on one of their own choosing, and that makes a difference.

And, yeah, the motivated do tend to look through the gloom for the light, to see something good in the day, even the bad ones, and they’re very often thankful, and most likely to cross the street to walk on the sunny side. And I know you laugh at them, and at me, and that’s ok, I’m laughing too.

Anyway, you’re charting your own path, and good for you, I just wish it edged a bit closer to happiness and you noticed a little bit of joy when it jumped out at you, but I know that’s not your way.

You say “life sucks”, and I say “sometimes”, and I’m sorry life sucks for you, but it doesn’t mean you suck too. You don’t.
